The Long Weekend Has Arrived!
As we head into a long weekend (Thanksgiving weekend in Canada), there may be a wee bit of indulging going on. What with all the food, desserts and drinks, it's enough to make your head spin!
So why not pre-plan and give your digestive system a break and enjoy a smoothie or two this weekend, which may offset the delicious, but heavy food that may be headed your way.
I wasn’t much of a smoothie or shake lover in the past. It definitely was a texture thing for me. Perhaps the very first shake I had was just too thick and I couldn’t handle the consistency. Anyway, once I learned how to make a smoothie and realized I could have it any way I want, I fell in love! There are so many variations and ways of making smoothies that I believe there is a smoothie out there for everyone. Every single one of us!
This chocolate almond smoothie is great for chocolate lovers, but doesn’t spike our insulin the way chocolate milk or actual chocolate would.
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
½ cup unsweetened coconut water (no pulp)
1 TBS of almond butter (organic)
1 TBS cocoa powder (unsweetened and organic)
1 scoop of chocolate vegan protein powder (optional)
A handful of spinach (optional – you won’t taste it as spinach is pretty neutral in shakes)
Blend the first 3 ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth. Add the next 3 ingredients and blend until desired consistency. Enjoy!
This is one of those recipes that you can add anything you want, such as:
- any other type of green (kale for example)
- spirulina (powerful antioxidant and high in many nutrients)
- 1 tsp of espresso coffee (organic of course for a little kick)
- a 1/2 banana or 1/2 avocado (for an extra smooth smoothie)
So yummy!
Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian peeps!
Yours in health and wellness,
Francine
